It is not SelfIsH to invest in yourself

Counselling and therapy for individuals

Welcome, and thank you for visiting SelfIsH Therapy.

My name is Selena and I am a BACP accredited counsellor. Welcome to my Person Centred therapy practice where the focus is on you and your unique experiences. Our belief at SelfIsH Therapy is that it is vital to invest in yourself and take care of your needs and wants. Self is health and being mentally healthy allows us to thrive in the way we deserve. Too often we neglect our needs and put others first but as they say on planes, always put your oxygen mask on first before you help others with theirs.

I come from a dual heritage, multi faith background and being from multiple minority groups allows me to connect with others on a deeper level. I have been the client seeking therapy not knowing what it would entail, the student counsellor learning new skills and now the BACP accredited therapist, committed to supporting others on their journeys.

While I am based in the Manchester/Stockport area and see clients face to face, I work flexibly and offer online and remote counselling to those outside these areas.

Making the decision to see a counsellor is a big step to take - but it can be a positive one. Please read on to find out more about how I can help you.

How I Work With Clients

As a therapist, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, without fear of judgement or shame.

Person-Centred therapy is based on the belief that individuals have within themselves the resources they need to grow and develop. Therefore, rather than offering advice or guidance, I will work with you to facilitate your own self-discovery and personal growth. You are the expert in your life and I am here to support you to find the tools to overcome your issues.

Together, we will build a therapeutic relationship based on trust, empathy and understanding. By truly listening to you and valuing your perspective, I aim to help you gain a deeper understanding of your own experiences and develop greater self-awareness which will help you focus on your goals.

You decide what we talk about and how many sessions you feel you need as I offer one off, short term and long term counselling and will be as flexible as you need. I also support counselling students who require personal therapy as part of their course and will complete all admin work you require in a timely manner.

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationship or identity issues or simply feeling stuck in your life, SelfIsH Therapy can provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. I look forward to working with you on your journey towards healing and personal growth.

Frequently asked questions

How long will I need to have sessions?

This will depend on how you feel. I offer short term and long term therapy and once we decide on a convenient day and time, sessions will continue for as long as you want. We will discuss your needs throughout and my aim is to empower you to decide.

How long will I have to wait for an appointment?

I aim to reply to all messages within 3 working days and set up an initial assessment within 2 weeks. I will keep you in the loop if there is a delay to start but will be as flexible as I can be with the free slots I have available.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?

What you tell me in therapy sessions is confidential. However there are some exceptions to this if you are at risk of harm to yourself or others or if I have a legal duty to disclose information. This will be explained in detail before we begin our work together.

Can I bring a friend or relative with me?

Sessions are for the individuals only so friends/relatives will not be permitted in the therapy room to ensure you have the safe space to focus on yourself. My physical practice is situated in the centre of Manchester so arrangements can be made to drop and pick up children and young people. I am registered with the DBS and can provide up to date information if requested.

My location

I work from private offices located in St Ann's Square, Manchester and see clients from Stockport, Greater Manchester and online.

In addition to providing face-to-face therapy, I also offer telephone counselling and online sessions for clients nationwide and beyond via Zoom or Teams. Contact me to find out more about how online therapy works.
